If it cannot do 4G voice, it is not a phone

What to check before you buy
- The listing says 4G / LTE / VoLTE — not “classic” or “2G only.”
- Your network — EE, Three, Vodafone, O2 (and MVNOs that ride them: Smarty, giffgaff, Asda, Lebara).
- Imports — Light Phone is the usual grey area. Bands that work in the US are not a promise in the UK.
- A test call — after the SIM lands, make a call outdoors, not just on Wi‑Fi calling folklore.
2G is not a plan
Some people say “I’ll just use 2G, it’s fine.” Coverage and emergency-call behaviour are not a hobby. Buy 4G. The Nokia 3210, CAT / AGM, and flips we name are in that bucket when you buy current UK stock.
If you already own a brick
Try it. If calls fail or drop to emergency-only, retire it. CeX and eBay are full of 3G leftovers with “Nokia” in the title. Warranty language does not restore a switched-off radio.
