A trial that does not require a personality transplant
This is how a lot of people discover they do not miss the feed — they miss maps for two hours of a hike. Offline maps on the parked smartphone in the glovebox still count as a win.
What to pack
| Trip | Phone | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Camping / festival | CAT B40 or AGM | Rain, mud, week-long battery |
| City weekend | Nokia 3210 | Light, 4G, not embarrassing in a pub |
| Family visit | Whatever they will actually answer | Number they already have, or a text the day before |
Leave the camera-phone in the tent if the point is to be there. Or take a compact. Do not take Instagram for “just photos.”
The Monday test
If you feel relief putting the smartphone back, you are not ready to sell it — and that is fine. If you feel annoyance, extend the brick to weekday evenings. That is the on-ramp to a two-phone life.
